Finding a pest in your home today does not mean they just arrived.
Consider calling a pest control professional. Quickly addressing pest activity can prevent wide spread infestations from occurring.

Seeing bugs in the kitchen, although unsettling, is not uncommon. Bugs are attracted to moisture; when the bugs are found only in the kitchen, the infestation has probably not spread.

• Be sure to keep food stored securely.
• Don't leave pet food out overnight either inside or outside your home.
• Keep counter tops wiped down frequently.
• Limit snacking to one area of your home.

Pests find it easy to enter through a multitude of cracks, broken seals around windows, cracks in caulking, etc.

• Make sure all windows, plumbing and electrical services, attics and crawl spaces are sealed properly.
• Seal any cracks in the foundation, nail holes etc. to prevent pests from entering.

Tree limbs that touch your home provide insects and rodents easy access up the tree and into your home.
Cut tree limbs back at least 2 feet from your home.

Living in an apartment or condo puts you at the highest risk for pest invasions. Your close proximity to your neighbors can mean that their pest problem could also be yours.

• Check to be sure there are no cracks in any shared walls etc. Pests can enter in holes less than 1/64".
• Make sure your building has contracted with a pest control company to treat common areas.
• Install thick weather stripping on doors that face outdoor hallways or be sure to seal interior doors properly.

Concrete slab is the best type of construction for reducing your risk. Although it is less likely, pests can enter through cracks as small as 1/64".

• Check for any visible signs of foundation cracks and seal any cracks immediately.
• Get an annual inspection. Damage caused by pests can go unnoticed for months, even years causing expensive damage to the structure.

Having pets puts you at risk for certain types of infestations. Pets carry pests in from the outdoors making your home more vulnerable to pest invasions.

• Don't leave pet food out overnight either inside or out.
• Try not to use a doggy door. If you already have one installed be sure it is sealed properly and stays closed when not in use.
• Treat pets regularly for fleas and check for ticks.

You don't have to be a neat freak to control pests but try not to feed them.

• Properly secure food.
• Limit snacking to one area of the home.
• Wipe counters frequently and clean up crumbs on the floor.
