I noticed the beetle in my bedroom and after some investigation, drew a blank. I scanned the web for insect information and lucked into your company. I sent an e-mail with very little expectation of a reply. Within a day or two Corey replied, gave me a couple of ideas right away, and seemed approachable, knowledgeable and, without any promises, said he was eager to help me out...adding that he liked the challenge. He even apologized when, due to a previous commitment, he thought he was late in getting back to me. I sent him the specimen, and although destroyed in transit, he stuck with it and came up with an identification. I believe he went a lot further than I anticipated, and was professional in his representation of his company. I would have no hesitation in contacting Corey again or using his company resources should the need arise. I have already spoken to a neighbor, about my experience, and will continue to do so. I wish Corey and Truly Nolen Canada well, and felt he surpassed my expectations...quite rare nowadays. Best Regards, Paul D. Martin

Truly Nolen Canada helped us with our insect problems after major renovations. There were a few issues with ants and spiders at the House, which is not something the families who stay here should have to worry about! Their thorough and professional inspections identified the sources of the problem, and they put us on a year-round program to make sure the bugs are kept outside. Now we don't worry about having to call and schedule times if something arises because we are more than taken care of. I highly recommend Truly Nolen Canada.

Carpenter Ant

Truly Nolen Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas Carpenter Ant

All too common in Canada, carpenter ants are well known for their ability to damage wooden structures. They are a frequent nuisance pest in homes and other buildings as they search for food and shelter. Although carpenter ants can be difficult to control, recent advances in pest control technology have produced more effective bait products as well as undetectable liquid products. These advanced treatments use carpenter ants to introduce materials deep into the colony to other carpenter ants through normal contact and food exchange, thus controlling the entire population. Using the most advanced methods, Truly Nolen Hamilton incorporates the latest technologies into our signature Four Seasons Pest Program to control carpenter ants and other pests with no extra add-on fees.

Localized Facts & Advice:

  • Carpenter ants can easily overwinter inside your home if their mature nest is able to locate and secure a weatherproof area to protect themselves from the harsh winter weather.
  • Homes located near wooded areas are good candidates for infestation. Progreston Pond area houses on Alderson Road, Carlisle Road and Progreston Road are all vulnerable to carpenter ants.
  • The number of carpenter ants are on the rise in Hamilton, Ontario and surrounding areas.
  • Carpenter ants are more active during the warmer months of spring and summer and are most active typically at night. Observations after sunset with a flashlight may give an indication of the source.

The keys to successful control of carpenter ants are to:

  • Immediately remove or repair any wet or rotting wood in your home.
  • Fix leaky roofs and plumbing leaks to avoid attracting carpenter ants.
  • Remove any clutter that creates shelter for carpenter ants to build their nests.
  • Trust your local Hamilton pest control professional to periodically monitor for the ants.

Bed Bug Control

Truly Nolen Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas Bed Bug Control Image

Southwestern Lake Ontario port city, Hamilton, plays host to a multitude of business travelers, tourists and sports fans every year. Visitors flock from all over to our city. The Royal Botanical Gardens, historical attractions and our own Hamilton Tiger-Cats bring in visitors from all over. With the numbers of visitors to this southwestern Ontario hub of industry, history and art, Hamilton residents are advised to be on the lookout for bed bug infestations. Bed bugs are showing up in hotels, apartments, retirement homes, vacation rentals, country clubs, colleges, universities and even private homes. They are resourceful and elusive pests traveling on clothing, luggage, furniture and artwork to take advantage of any place humans sleep.

Bed bugs are not disease carriers so they do not pose a direct health concern for Hamilton residents. Some individuals can have an allergic reaction to their bites but for most of us, they only cause stress and anxiety leading to sleep deprivation which can indirectly cause health issues.

Things you should know about Bed Bugs

  • Bed bugs continue to be on the rise in Ontario.
  • Your first indication you may have a bed bug problem may come from the bites. Bed bugs inflict multiple bites that usually line up, like the bed bug is walking across your back and every couple of inches takes a blood snack. These small red welts will itch.
  • Bed bugs are really small and flat when they are not engorged with your blood. They are oval shaped and flat reddish brown insects.
  • They are hard to spot since they only come out at night and are small and fast. You are more likely to find their bloodstained trail in the crevices of your mattress long before you spot one in motion.
  • They are resourceful and will hide in your bedroom until you go to sleep. They come out of hiding when your warm body is at rest and you are exhaling carbon dioxide. The warmth combined with the carbon dioxide is like a dinner bell causing them to come out of deep hiding in your mattress, headboard, box springs, almost anywhere in the room to feast on your blood.
  • They are not only found in and around your bed. They will spread to your drapes, and furniture or almost any object they can attach themselves to as their numbers grow.

What should you do if you think you have bed bugs?

Before you panic, make sure that is really the problem. Don't throw your bed away until you have determined what the problem is and what less drastic measures are available. A big bloodstained, smelly mess on your sheets can be overwhelming but it is not impossible to conquer and a problem best left to professionals. Call Truly Nolen Hamilton for a thorough bed bug inspection, the sooner the better. The inspection will determine if the evidence in your home is from a past or present infestation. Truly Nolen utilizes an integrated pest management system (I.P.M.) essential for bed bug control.

If your Hamilton home does have bed bugs, Truly Nolen's certified technicians will get your home ready for treatment. This includes removing and bagging items that may have been exposed to bed bugs to prepare them for treatment. Any affected area of your home will also be thoroughly cleaned to remove bed bug eggs.

The actual treatment solution begins with their technicians applying the control material with a (patent pending) high pressure misting system that drives the control material into seams and crevices so that the fabrics are saturated and the bed bugs have nowhere to hide. Everything in the infested room will be treated.

To keep the bed bugs from returning, your Truly Nolen Canada technician will talk to you about encasing your box springs and mattress to seal out new bed bugs and seal in any that are live so they will soon be dead. This gives you an alternative to buying a new bed.

The treated areas will be re-inspected after ten days. If any bed bug activity is found, the area will be re-treated. Truly Nolen's products will further help control adult bed bugs and prevent bed bugs from hatching. This is important as bed bugs can come back, it is simply too easy for them to hitch a ride on you or your friends clothing, back-pack or almost anything with creases and folds for them to hide in.

Let Truly Nolen Hamilton service technicians show you how to spot a possible infestation. Proactive awareness of a potential problem will help residents in Ainslie Wood, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, Stoney Creek, Ancaster and other Hamilton neighborhoods identify the early warning signs of further re-infestations.

Call Truly Nolen Hamilton at 905-548-7679 or schedule a bed bug inspection online to take care of your existing bed bug problem and help prevent re-infestations.

Rodent Control

Truly Nolen Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas Rodent Control Image

Humans derive no benefits from having most rodents around, but rodents enjoy all sorts of perks. Most notably food, shelter and water, in some cases rodents get so comfortable they decide to reproduce and take over your home. Rats and mice can be a problem in urban, suburban and rural areas as they can survive almost anywhere. Hamilton has everything rodents need to survive, it is densely populated and industrialized meaning lots of shelter and food, being a port city doesn't hurt either. Port cities are often havens for rodents that harbor disease. Taking precautionary measures to keep your home safe is important, this includes sealing any cracks or openings in your home's foundation and keeping debris and vegetation from touching your home.

Things to Know:

  • Hamilton is home to both native and non-native rats, the latter sometimes being referred to as Old World rats.
  • Canadian rats begin foraging soon after dark and most of their food gathering occurs before midnight. They often store or hoard food in hidden areas.
  • Rodents are very agile. They can get wherever they want to go and can do significant damage to your home once inside. They can climb most any surface. They can squeeze through incredibly small holes and gaps, anything in your home from the foundation to the tip of the roof.
  • Rodents are also incessant chewers. Their gnawing can cause structural damage to your home as well as a fire hazard if your electrical wiring is gnawed.

Each home is unique, with its own entry points and conditions that can make it ideal for a rodent infestation. The professionals at Truly Nolen Hamilton take the time to thoroughly inspect your home, identify any entry points, and implement measures and barriers to entry.

Truly Nolen's Complete Rodent Control Program provides you with a one-year guaranteed warranty and the peace of mind that comes with it. We specialize in the expert removal of Norway rats, house mice, and roof rats that are most problematic to homeowners in Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and surrounding communities. Bee & Wasp Control

Truly Nolen Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas Bee and Wasp Control Image

Hamilton, with over 100 waterfalls along the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment, the Steel Capital has also earned the title of "The City of Waterfalls". Our area attracts many visitors to the shores of southern Lake Ontario. Highly industrialized, culturally evolved and historically rich, Hamilton always buzzes with something new and innovative to do or see.

In the warmer months, Hamilton's over 600,000 residents and 700,000 plus visitors may encounter the not so welcome buzz of bees and wasps. We all respect the major role honeybees and other bees play in our eco-system as pollinators but they still can instill fear especially when they swarm near our children and pets.

Truly Nolen Hamilton can eradicate your problem if you spot a hive or swarm at your home or business. Contact us today for an inspection.

Bees and wasps are not the same, neither are the best practices for controlling or eliminating them. While wasps tend to have smaller colonies, bees can have colonies with populations close to 100,000. See below for some of the things to look for to distinguish the bees and other pollinators from the yellow jackets, wasps and other predator stinging insects.

Bees vs. Wasps- What is the difference, they all sting.

  • Honeybees, bumblebees and other pollinators are mainly focused on collecting pollen for honey production.
  • These "Pollinators" are stockier than the predators and have round, furry bodies and flat legs for effectively collecting pollen.
  • The good news about pollinators is they can only sting you once before they die and they usually only sting if you are trying to touch or get to close to their hive.
  • Yellow jackets, wasps and hornets are of the "predator" variety, preying on flies, roaches and other insects for food.
  • These "Predators", on the other hand, are more streamlined and shiny, and built to stab their victims multiple times without fear of death.

What should you do if you discover a beehive or swarm near your house?

It is important to take action quickly, especially if you have small children, or anyone who may have an adverse reaction to a sting. Do not to try to handle this type of situation on your own without proper training and equipment. Contact Truly Nolen of Hamilton for professional bee and wasp control services.

Your Truly Nolen technician will speak with you about your bee or wasp problem and make sure you are safe through the inspection and treatment procedure.

Spider Control

Truly Nolen Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas Spider Control Image

Spiders are everywhere. They come in many different shapes and sizes. Some spiders are dangerous, while others are just annoying. A lot of the time spiders are found outside, but occasionally they can find their way into homes, basements and garages. Although spiders will not damage buildings or structures, their presence is creepy and some spider bites can be painful. It can actually be quite helpful having some spiders in your home. The insect can reduce infestation from other bugs. A spider's diet consists of small insects. Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge Truly Nolen Pest Control uses advanced techniques to remove spider infestations. Contact us today for an inspection.

Spiders In Your Home

  • Look for spider webs. They can vary in size and shape depending on the species.
  • Not all spiders live in a web. Some live in burrows in crevices.
  • Some spiders are attracted to damp environments such as basements, walls and other damp locations.
  • Spiders can be found in attics, the junction of a wall and ceiling, closets and storage boxes.
  • Their diet consists mainly of other insects like flies and ants. Where you find other insects you might see spiders.

Spiders aren't so bad.

Although spiders can be creepy, they might not be a terrible thing to have around. Their diets mostly consist of other insects, so they help control insect problems. Spiders can also be a good indicator of larger more serious infestations. Seeing a lot of spiders can mean there's a lot of food around. You might have an infestation of the insect spiders eat. Just like every other pest, spiders are attracted to a reliable food source.
