Home (Not So) Sweet Home for Honey Bees

Honey Bee - Truly Nolen Canada

Truly Nolen Pest Control recently serviced a home with an incredible honey bee infestation. We needed a boom truck to elevate our technicians up three stories to where the bees were entering the home.

Once the entry point was identified, we were able to remove panels from the wall, which exposed a giant honeycomb, roughly 0.6m x 0.9m (2 feet x 3 feet) in size.

It’s crucial to have these honey bee nests removed as soon as they are discovered for a number of reasons, mainly the following:

  • Accumulation of wax and honey can lead to mould and deterioration of wood on the home
  • The nest will only grow in size if not treated, increasing the likelihood of further damage
  • The more bees that are present near a home, the greater the risks of people or pets being stung
  • Other insects can be attracted to the home to feed off the honey and deceased bees, which can become food sources
