By: Drew Wind Submitted via Truly Nolen Email

I recently stayed at a motel which had bed bugs, and this motel was in the same city as Joanne's office in Bruce County (Port Elgin), and I found her office's number via Google. Upon possibly finding a bed bug in my home from this motel, I found this number and had many questions. Without meeting me, and being 4 hours away from each other, Joanne actually spent a good 45 minutes on the phone with me, helping me out with suggestions and even as far as allowing me to email a picture of this bug to identify it as a bed bug or not just on her own time and free. This service was actually comforting as can be, and I wanted to go out of my way now for her, as she did for me, even not meeting each other, or ever probably, to tell her company that Joanne, clearly is going above the call for customer service. This company is lucky to have someone with that knowledge and helpful to the public. Thank you.

A Safe and Effective Removal Process

At Truly Nolen, we know that every pest situation is unique. However, with our years of experience, we’ve seen almost everything. This has helped us develop safe and effective strategies for removing unwanted visitors from your home and keeping them away.

Our first step is to inspect your home for any signs of pests. When we identify indications of their presence, we use products that are both environmentally friendly and pet-safe to help prevent the infestation from spreading further.
Pests are not known for their cleanliness. We also offer several disinfecting strategies that can help eliminate any unsanitary conditions these pests have caused. If we’ve identified and removed rodents, it may also be best to hire a
professional cleaning service to deal with any remaining urine or feces.

Preventing Their Comeback

At Truly Nolen, we believe that the pest removal process isn’t complete until there’s a prevention plan in place. We offer regular home and property inspections so we can determine the best solution for your needs and update our plan as needed.

As your home or business passes through the various seasons, you may need slightly different strategies to deal with seasonal pests. If there have been changes to your property, we can also help mitigate the recurrence of pests by identifying cracks, holes, or other entryways into your home.

Carpenter Ant

Cambridge Carpenter Ant

Cambridge carpenter ants present a serious problem for homeowners. These industrious insects enter homes through unsealed areas around pipes, wires, foundation cracks and tree limbs that overhang roofs. They thrive in moist environments where there is an ample supply of damp or decaying wood.

Many Ontario residents love the beauty and natural look of wood features on their homes, but their wooden siding, decking and porches attract the ants. It is important to look for signs of infestation around your home before significant structural damage occurs. Get professional help right away to assess a carpenter ant problem and eradicate it.

Infestation Signs

A carpenter ant colony consists of a queen and her workers that carve through wood to make nests as the brood grows. Sawdust piles from carpenter ant tunnels are a sign of activity and possible infestation. Workers are also visible as they forage for food.

Mating swarms appear when a colony is mature and is ready to form new colonies. These swarmers are one of the most visible signs of an infestation and indicate a sizable colony. Sometimes, if the colony is large enough, you hear rustling noises as ants burrow through wood.

Damage Issues

Carpenter ants continuously tunnel inside wood to grow their colonies. Over time, this process compromises the integrity of a structure and makes it unstable. Large populations of carpenter ants do considerable physical and cosmetic damage to a home.

Removal Steps

If you have these ants in your home, removing them before they can do too much damage is essential.

  • Inspect and IdentifyThe key to the removal of carpenter ants is to find the nest. Truly Nolen starts with a thorough interior and exterior home inspection to check for signs of activity and infestations. In Canada, spring weather brings large groups of carpenter ants out in search of nesting areas. Cambridge residents are likely to see an increase in carpenter ant activity around their homes this time of year. Our professional technicians identify the location of nests and exterminate the colonies.
  • Decide Course of ActionOur technicians determine the right treatment measures for your carpenter ant problems and develop a customized treatment plan for the interior, exterior and foundation of your home. Our expert technicians use techniques to treat nesting sites that keep colonies from adapting and dispersing further throughout your home.
  • Control and PreventCarpenter ant colonies are extraordinarily difficult to control. Effective treatment includes using technology and monitoring to prevent future infestations.

Bed Bug Control

Truly Nolen Cambridge Bed Bug Image

If you’re dealing with a bed bug problem in Cambridge, it’s time to call the experts. Truly Nolen can help remedy the situation through our safe and effective methods that remove bed bugs and keep them away. Call us today for an inspection and we can go to work getting your home safe and healthy again.

Identifying Bed Bugs

Besides their desire for feasting on blood, bed bugs do everything they can to remain unnoticed. They are tiny, often smaller than a nail head, and spend their days hiding in dark crevices. When the sun falls, they work their way up bedposts to start their meal. You likely won’t notice their bite, as their saliva contains a numbing agent that helps make sure you stay asleep.

However, with enough time and a large enough population base, you’ll likely start to notice small red bites or welts on your chest, back, arms, legs, or neck. Though the bites themselves are small, they are typically clustered together. Many people don’t feel any resulting pain or itchiness from the bites. However, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction.

Inspecting Your Home

Because of their reddish colour, bed bugs are often mistaken for dirt or debris, which makes it difficult to notice their presence. However, there are some potential warning signs they may be lurking in your home:

  • Remnant exoskeletons
  • Small brown spots on the bed, near the bedposts, or on wallpaper
  • Unexplained red marks on your or your family members’ skin
  • Unusual sweet odour

If you notice any of these signs, you may be dealing with bed bugs. This means it’s time to call a Cambridge bed bug control expert like Truly Nolen.

Treating an Infestation

Bed bugs are not just found in dirty homes. Because they live in cracks, crevices, and other tiny nooks and crannies, bed bugs are just as often found in spotless homes. A deep clean may not be enough to get rid of these insects. Even treatments for common pests like cockroaches or fleas may fall short in reducing their population.

This makes bed bugs all but impossible to deal with on your own. You need the help of professional bed bug control experts. At Truly Nolen, we use a special apparatus that can help get mist into the tiniest of hiding spots. Our treatments kills bed bugs of all ages, including eggs. This helps eliminate the problem and prevents a new generation of bed bugs from attacking.

If you’re concerned your home has bed bugs, call us today. By scheduling an inspection, we can analyze the situation and treat your home safely and effectively.

Rodent Control

Cambridge Rodent Control Image

At Truly Nolen, we understand that you have put a lot of time, money and effort into your Cambridge property. Whether residential or commercial, protecting that investment is a priority, but one potential problem you may not have considered is preventing a rodent infestation. Our Cambridge rodent control team can help you understand why keeping rats and mice away from your property or business is important to its value and well-being.

Rodents Destroy Building Materials

Rats and mice may find their way into your home, shop or restaurant searching for food. They could gain entrance using overhanging tree branches and a loose shingle to make their way into your attic. Roof rats are especially clever at gnawing their way in and then chewing up your building’s insulation for nesting material. They may also bite through wiring and chomp on wooden beams to file down their teeth.

While mice are smaller than rats, they can still do plenty of damage to your home or business. They may build nests inside the walls and ruin thermal insulation. Like most rodents, mice urinate and defecate often, and once the urine seeps into wood or insulation, the smell can spread throughout the building.

Mice and Rats Carry Disease

Wild mice and rats bring along a variety of diseases that can affect you, your family, customers and even pets. One of the most common is hantavirus, which is an airborne virus that may cause a number of serious symptoms, including:

  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Reduced heart rate

Hantavirus is transmitted through contact with rodent droppings and urine or by breathing in the air in areas that are heavily infested by mice or rats. As the problem grows, the increased amounts of urine and droppings may severely affect your property’s air quality.

We Can Help

If you find that rats or mice have invaded your property, our Truly Nolen Cambridge rodent control services can help. Our trapping and bait programs target rodents where they hide, and our measures ensure that anyone who visits your home or business remains free from exposure to harsh chemicals or poisons.

Our rodent treatment also offers preventative actions to restrict access for these troublesome pests by sealing holes and crevices where they might gain entrance. We can also provide you with tips for keeping rodents away, such as sealing pet food and trash cans tightly and trimming tree branches away from your roof.

Protect Your Cambridge Property

If rats and mice are invading your Cambridge home or business, you do not have to face the problem alone. Call one of our many locations today for rodent control and prevention.

Bee & Wasp Control

Truly Cambridge Bee and Wasp Control Image

Bees and wasps are a common sight in Cambridge and are active in the late spring, summer and early fall. While these insects are beneficial for pollinating plants and preying on common garden pests, they can become troublesome themselves when they choose to nest at your home or business. We at Truly Nolen have several different strategies for protecting your property from bees and wasps, from Cambridge bee removal to identifying and targeting wasp species nesting at your home or business.

Infestation Dangers

Bees and wasps typically build their nests in the spring. Once the queen chooses a location, she creates a colony and produces eggs. Once the larvae start to develop, the colony grows and reaches its peak by early fall.

Workers and drones may become aggressive while defending a nest or a food source, and that is usually when they become a danger. These insects may also find their way into your attic, where their presence can be extremely destructive. Connecting with our bee and wasp control team can be the first step in ridding your property of these insects.

Identification

It can be difficult to tell bees, wasps and hornets apart, especially because you do not want to get too close to their nests and risk being stung. Our bee and wasp services can help you identify which problematic pest has taken up residence on your property and how to deal with nest removal based on that identification. Honey bees are typically smaller than wasps, while most wasp species are narrow-waisted and appear less hairy than bees. Both species have four wings.

Our Cambridge wasp control teams can identify what type of wasp might be nesting under your eaves or in a corner doorway, where they can be safe from wind and rain. Most wasps have the tendency to be aggressive when people approach their nests, so leaving their removal to our experienced employees can help keep you and your family safe.

Removal

We can treat bee and wasp colonies at any time of year, but early prevention and removal of developing nests can prevent the growth of large, aggressive groups later on. Our Cambridge bee removal services can prevent bees from nesting around your home or business, where they might become a danger to anyone entering or leaving the building. We can also advise you about what to expect during and after treatment, when single bees or wasps may return to search for the nest.

Let Us Assist You

Bees and wasps can be dangerous when large colonies grow at your Cambridge property. Let Truly Nolen protect it by calling one of our many locations today for stinging insect removal and defence.

Spider Control

Truly Nolen Cambridge Spider Control Image

Spiders inside a home put people on edge. While most spiders are harmless, their darting movements and sudden appearances leave many individuals uncomfortable with the idea of cohabitation.

If you notice the seasonal arrival of spiders or see an invasion of these creatures, Truly Nolen has the Cambridge spider control solutions to your pest issues.

Our technicians understand pest behaviour and employ effective techniques to rid your home of these uninvited visitors.

Types of Spiders in Cambridge

Residents generally recognize the most common types of spiders that make their home in Cambridge. These spiders are not harmful to humans.

  • House spiders: Common house spiders are web builders and quite a nuisance when large groups of them take up residence in various parts of your home.
  • Wolf spiders: Wolf spiders are mostly ground dwellers that enter homes in cooler weather to seek shelter. They are found in all parts of a home but are mainly spotted in basements or dark areas where there is an opportunity to hunt for food.
  • Cellar spiders: Cellar spiders are attracted to the dampness in basements, crawlspaces, and cellars and make their webs in corner areas. These spiders tend to live close together in large communities, so this activity can create problems for homeowners.

The black widow spider also makes its home in Ontario, and although encounters are rare, it is a dangerous species with a bite that can cause serious illness or death. Black widows like to build webs in dark, undisturbed places and may become aggressive if their nests are bothered. It is important to have these spiders removed from homes, garages and sheds for personal safety.

Ways Spider Control Can Help Homeowners

Spider communities often grow out of check quickly. It is important to get expert pest control help to assess the situation and take proper spider restraint measures.

Protocols for Infestation Eradication

Our expert technicians will inspect your home and use sustainable prevention techniques to remove spiders and prevent their return. We use these steps to protect your home:

  • Clean
  • Seal
  • Monitor

Our comprehensive system roots out infestation issues, and it guards against future intrusions. We will schedule follow-up appointments to perform ongoing prevention tasks as needed.
