What people are saying about Truly Nolen of Waterloo

Rating: 5 of 5
By: Drew Wind Submitted via Truly Nolen Email

I recently stayed at a motel which had bed bugs, and this motel was in the same city as Joanne's office in Bruce County (Port Elgin), and I found her office's number via Google. Upon possibly finding a bed bug in my home from this motel, I found this number and had many questions. Without meeting me, and being 4 hours away from each other, Joanne actually spent a good 45 minutes on the phone with me, helping me out with suggestions and even as far as allowing me to email a picture of this bug to identify it as a bed bug or not just on her own time and free. This service was actually comforting as can be, and I wanted to go out of my way now for her, as she did for me, even not meeting each other, or ever probably, to tell her company that Joanne, clearly is going above the call for customer service. This company is lucky to have someone with that knowledge and helpful to the public. Thank you.

Carpenter Ant

Waterloo Carpenter Ant

Carpenter ants are a nuisance any time they make an appearance and pose a real risk to your home if left untreated for too long. Their aggressive chewing action will weaken the structural integrity of your wood over time.

Truly Nolen has over 80 years of professional experience in recognizing the signs of carpenter ant infestation and getting rid of these unwelcome guests before they bring harm. Read below to learn about common evidence of carpenter ants and the full range of treatment services we offer. Our number one priority is to bring you peace of mind.

Telltale Signs You May Have Carpenter Ants

Wondering if carpenter ants have already moved in with you? Consider these common indicators:

  • Small piles of sawdust on basement floor or decking, left behind when they chew through your wood
  • Brownish-black ants near sugary food in a kitchen pantry or dining room (carpenter ants have a sweet tooth)
  • Tiny, thin ribbons etched into your wood, like curly tunnels in the wood-grain
  • White, grub-like larvae clusters hidden in the corners of attics, basements, laundry rooms, mud rooms or damp lumber piles

How We Can Help

Consider the full range of our professional expertise. Here’s what we’ll do to get to the bottom of your carpenter ant problem and ensure they don’t come back:

  • Inspect outside and inside your home to assess any damage, infested areas and problematic conditions that invite carpenter ants
  • Eliminate sources of carpenter ant habitat such as damp wood, water leaks, plumbing drips, condensation in window panes and partially decayed flooring
  • Identify exactly how many colonies and nests you have by thoroughly investigating your outside perimeter, deck and porch foundation, crawl spaces and plumbing
  • Design a customized treatment plan that works for your home, family and busy schedule
  • Use innovative baiting techniques and liquid insecticides that ensure complete elimination of the individual ants and their home colonies
  • Ensure that exactly enough treatment is applied to each nest, so the ants cannot migrate or avoid contact with the treatment
  • Provide personalized consultation for ongoing ant prevention strategies such as removing standing sources of water, replacing rotten wood, plugging leaks, caulking windows, drying out musty basements and optimizing rain gutter water flow

Taking the Next Steps

Get a head start to make sure carpenter ants don’t become an issue and stop their aggressive spread. Describe your problem, ask questions of our certified technicians and schedule the professional service you need. Contact us online or call (226) 241-2625.

Bed Bug Control

Truly Nolen Waterloo Bed Bug Image

One of the most difficult pests to remove from your home is bed bugs. If you have these insects in your Waterloo home, it’s time to call the professionals. At Truly Nolen Pest Control, we’ve successfully handled bed bugs in homes and businesses for over 80 years. Learn more about how we assist you in restoring your home and keep your family safe.

What Are Bed Bugs?

These small insects travel on clothing, in luggage and in furniture. They are stubborn hitchhikers that can quickly travel from home to home. They travel and reproduce most during their peak season of June through October. Even if you have a clean, tidy home, it may still be housing bed bugs.

Bed bugs usually come out at night to bite people while they are sleeping. A bite isn’t dangerous, but it’s uncomfortable and itchy. Some individuals are allergic to bites, which can cause more severe reactions. These insects are attracted by carbon dioxide, so they find people and animals that are sleeping in your home. Most bed bugs can survive in surprisingly small spaces. Tucked away in your mattress, draperies or even under wallpaper, these small insects can hide throughout the day and show little sign of their presence. Look for small brown spots on the corners and edges of your bed and small bites on you or your pets.

Effective Removal Strategies

At Truly Nolen, we use a dynamic bed bug removal strategy to safely remove these stubborn pests without affecting your health. Our patent-pending misting system uses high-pressure mist to push control material into the cracks and seams that bed bugs call home. We use this system in combination with thorough cleaning services to keep you and your family bite-free. Our in-depth inspections before and after our control program help us determine when the infestation is successfully removed.

After removing bed bugs from your home, we’ll work with you to determine the source of the infestation and to develop prevention strategies to keep your home safe. We only use pet-friendly products and environmentally responsible strategies in your home or business.

Restore Your Home Today

Don’t struggle alone against this stubborn pest. Schedule an inspection today to find out whether your home contains bed bugs and how we can safely handle them. Work with a global leader in effective pest control strategies to enjoy safe removal of bed bugs, rodents, ants and more. Our local experts can help you enjoy a peaceful home in Waterloo without unwelcome visitors.

Rodent Control

Waterloo Rodent Control Image

Rats and mice pose a health and home safety hazard. Whether you have a few mice in your attic or a serious infestation, find out why you need professional assistance dealing with these pests. Don’t wait until you experience any of these dangers; enjoy full-service support in Waterloo from Truly Nolen Pest Control.

The Dangers of Rodents in Your Home

There are a number of ways that rodents can be a pest in your home. Check your home for signs of mice and rats to prevent these hazards:

  • Rodent bite
  • House fire
  • Disease

A rat is more likely to bite, but common mice have also been known to nip hard. Unfortunately, small children are often the victim of a rodent bite. While not deadly by itself, a rodent bite can be painful and can pass on diseases and promote infection. Chewing is a common pastime for rodents in your home. Whether they’re gnawing on your home’s framing, insulation or wiring, it poses a problem. Minor damage is bad enough, but a rodent chewing on wiring can cause a short circuit and a fire in your home. Even if you are never bitten by a rat, you can still become sick from an infestation. Mouse feces in your home can also pass on viruses and diseases.

Safe Rodent Removal

At Truly Nolen, we use pet-friendly and environmentally safe removal strategies in your home. Restore your peace of mind without spreading poison or harmful chemicals around your house. Discuss your safety concerns and work with a global leader in safe, effective rodent removal services.

After the rodents are successfully trapped and removed from your property, we ensure proper sanitation practices are used to disinfect your home with HEPA vacuum systems and safe sanitizing agents. Without this step, you and your household may still become sick from leftover feces or urine.

Prevention Tips

Don’t wait until you have rats and mice in your home before taking action. We’ll work with you to inspect your home and find likely entrances for rodents. A mouse can squeeze through surprisingly small holes in your home. By sealing holes and crevices and removing food sources from your home, we can prevent another pest issue in your home together.

Get Full-Service Pest Control

Schedule an inspection today to learn how our team at Truly Nolen can keep your home safe from rodents and the risks they pose. Choose a local expert to inspect your home in Waterloo and help you enjoy a safe, pest-free house.

Bee & Wasp Control

Truly Waterloo Bee and Wasp Control Image

Many people are afraid of bees and wasps because of their ability to sting. If you see a nest or a swarm on your property, your first instinct may be to panic. Instead, stay calm and observe carefully. Correctly identifying the insects is the first step toward effective control. Trying to dispose of a colony of bees or wasps should only be attempted by professionals like our trained technicians at Truly Nolen. Otherwise, you could put yourself in danger of potentially deadly stings or risk harming the environment.

How Are Bees and Wasps Different?

Wasps and bees are both members of the order Hymenoptera, meaning that they have two pairs of membranous wings and a narrow “waist” separating abdomen and thorax. These insects typically have stripes of black and a lighter colour, often yellow.

However, there are significant differences between wasps and bees:

  • Most species of bees are vegetarians that feed on nectar and pollen, while most wasp species are carnivorous predators that feed on other insects.
  • Bees tend to be stockier and covered with hair, while wasps are typically slim and smooth, with the waist more evident.
  • Bees typically only sting when under direct threat. Wasps tend to be more aggressive in stinging.

Some bee species, e.g., honey bees, can only sting once. Their barbed stingers not only get pulled out when the bee tries to fly away, but some of the contents of their abdomens get left behind as well, and the bees die shortly thereafter. However, wasps as well as some bee species, e.g., bumblebees, have smooth stingers, meaning that they can survive to sting again.

Why Does the Difference Matter?

Bees are beneficial to the ecosystem due to their role as pollinators. Not only that, but they have faced multiple environmental threats within the last few decades. Whenever possible, it is best to leave a colony of wild bees alone to do their important work. However, sometimes bees can become a nuisance, such as when they take up residence in the walls of your home. If this occurs, removal may be the only option.

While wasps also do some pollination, they are less beneficial than bees because of their aggressive nature. Besides the threat they can pose to humans, wasps may eat bees and other beneficial insects. The harm that they can cause outweighs the good, and wasps do not face the same environmental threats that bees do. Therefore, removal of wasps from your property is almost always the best course of action.

What Should You Do About Wasps or Bees?

As soon as you find a nest or swarm on your property, you should contact your local Waterloo Truly Nolen office. Our technicians can identify the problem insect and determine an appropriate solution.

Spider Control

Truly Nolen Waterloo Spider Control Image

Spiders are close to the top of the list when it comes to unwanted house guests. While most spiders in Waterloo are harmless to humans, they are still an uncomfortable presence and could be a sign of an insect infestation. Learn more about arachnid control services, and find out why Truly Nolen Pest Control is your premier service provider in Ontario.

Identifying Spiders in Waterloo

Waterloo is primarily home to non-poisonous spiders. Here are the common species you can expect to see in your community:

  • Cellar spiders
  • Wolf spiders
  • Common house spiders

Though rare, black widows are also present in Ontario. This species is poisonous but extremely rare. The other species are interested in removing flies and other insects from your home and won’t bite people or pets. Many removal strategies use harmful chemicals. Not only does this leave a mess to clean up in your basement, crawl space and other areas of your home, but some chemical pest removal options can be dangerous to children, pets and even damage materials in your home.

Recognizing Signs of an Infestation

Look for cobwebs in your basement, around your eaves or outside your home. Dark areas that aren’t often used or cleaned are common places where these pests hide. Because they feed on insects in your home, a large presence of arachnids is typically linked with an ant, fly or another insect issue. Work with a professional to identify the extent of the issue. Don’t wait until your home has a serious infestation, but work with our team at Truly Nolen to identify safe removal and prevention tips.

Preventing an Infestation

Our experts will inspect your home, seal any cracks and perform other prevention tasks that remove the chance of spiders entering your home. Part of our prevention strategy for this particular pest is to remove the risk of insects in your home. We’ll recommend areas to clean, seal and monitor to ensure your home remains pest-free. Schedule follow-up inspections so we can assess the effectiveness of our removal strategy. Our techniques have been used in 30 countries and are successful at restoring homes and keeping families safe.

Choosing Truly Nolen

When you choose Truly Nolen, you’ll enjoy pet-friendly and household-friendly control solutions. We work with leading tools and techniques to avoid harsh, dangerous chemical solutions. Don’t risk your health in order to remove pests, but schedule an inspection today for thorough identification, removal and prevention services in Waterloo. Take back your home, and enjoy a pest-free place to rest and relax.
